The Rrommedia.net represents Rroma Media outlets and Rroma Media programmes in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, based on and committed to their Rroma communities.

The Vision of this international Rrommedia.net is:

  • To include Rroma people as active participants with equal rights in the society

  • Empower the Rroma population and the Rroma communities

  • Full equality in quality of Rroma and Non-Rroma Media and adequate quantity of Rroma Media outlets

To succeed, we, the members of the Rrommedia.net will have as Goals the following:

  • To support and encourage the establishing of professional Rroma Media, journalism and productions, competitive in quality with the Non-Rroma Media

  • Establish and strengthen independent and professional Rroma Media

  • Promote Rroma culture, history/traditions, values/customs and Rroma language

  • Rise awareness in the Non-Rroma politics and society about the situation of Rroma and keep the Rroma situation on the political agenda

  • A bridge among Rroma Media partners and to reach out to the non-Rroma Media and population

  • Ensure advocacy and promote human rights for Rroma communities on European level

  • Eradicate discrimination, marginalization, segregation, stereotypes and prejudices among non-Rroma population towards Rroma

The Rrommedia.net serves as an informal network till its formal registration. It seeks to be inclusive and welcome new members.

Activities will include:

  • Sharing information and sharing experience among Rroma Media

  • Education of population, development of Rroma Media

  • Exchange video, audio and text information and productions

  • Cooperation with Non-Rroma Media

  • Co-productions among Rroma Media and Rroma productions

  • Training of journalists

  • Website and Mailinglist

Details are specified in a Code of Conduct and Rules of Cooperation, binding for all media outlets and individuals in the Rrommedia.net.


The decision to create the Rrommedia.net was taken by Roma Media outlets and Rroma Media programmes from different countries meeting in Ohrid, Macedonia on Septem­ber 26/27, 2003. A follow-up meeting was held in Novi Sad, Serbia and Montenegro on April 21/22, 2004 at which the mission statement was discussed. It than was adopted and signed at the third Rrommedia.net Meeting in Kotor, Montenegro, on September 23, 2004.
